Almond growers in the northern part of California's San Joaquin Valley are suffering an increase in the fungal disease anthracnose, which has devastating effects on the crop and trees and has few effective controls. Wet weather recently has compounded the anthracnose problem in isolated orchards, particularly in northern Merced and Stanislaus counties, said Merced County Farm Advisor Lonnie Hendricks.
