Giammarco-Vetrocoke's low-energy process is a two-stage potassium carbonate process with separate HP and LP strippers.It has been advantageously retrofitted in some older ammonia plants in which the original CO_2 removal system was equipped with two parallel strippers rather than a single big one,as is sometimes the case where site access was difficult at the time of the original construction.
