Wound healing represents an organized effort to reestablish tis-sue integrity following an injury, involving both inflammation and the resolution of the inflammatory response including apoptosis of inflammatory cells infiltrating the injured region [1,2]. The partic-ipation of nitric oxide (NO) both in apoptosis of the various cells [3-5] and in wound healing [2,6] has already been documented, but its role(s) in these processes have not been completely defined, yet. Despite the establishment of the important role of NO in apop-tosis, a molecular-level understanding of the origin of its dichoto-mous pro- and antiapoptotic effects seems elusive, while computations point to the importance of precise timing of NO pro-duction [7].
