摘要

Age-related loss of muscle mass seems to be fairly constant after the age of 50 and is estimated to occur at a yearly rate of 1-2%. Moreover, age-related diseases that require bed rest may further increase muscle loss. Therefore, it is of interest toevaluate dietary supplements that could maintain muscle mass and function in the elderly in both health and disease. Among them the most utilized are proteins or peptide extracts, or selected amino acids with specific muscular effects. Here we review recent findings on this matter.
