Methods to obtain intensity squeezing in semiconductor laser are discussed and compared with theoretical predictions of several models. An important application of these lasers is high-sensitivity spectroscopy. We show that the classical technique of FM modulation spectroscopy can be transposed to squeezed semiconductor lasers. A narrow detection bandwidth and a high modulation index, together with the sub-shot noise source, lead to a minimum detectable signal that is a few parts in 10(8). [References: 28]
