The dynamical behavior of H_2~+in near-infrared, intense laser fields (I>10~(13)W/cm~2andλ >700 nm) was discussed on the basis of the results of accurate electronic and nuclear wave packet propagationobtained by the application of the dual transformation method. Using "field-following" time-dependent adi-abatic states defined as the eigenfunctions of the "instantaneous" electronic Hamiltonian including thedipole interaction with laser fields, we clarify the importance of the excited state dynamics in the ionizationprocess. We also discuss the mechanism of ionization of H_2on the basis of the description of the multicofig-uration time-dependent Hartree-Fock (MCTDHF) method.
