Mode-locked high-power lasers and nonlinear optics - a powerful combination

We report on nonlinear experiments pimped with high-power femtosecond pulses from a passively mode-locked thin disk Yb:YAG laser: a nonlinear fiber compression experi ment, generating 33-fs pulses with 18 W average power and a fiber-feedback parametric oscillator generating 19 W of signal power in the 1.5-μm region and 7.8 W of idler power at a wave length of 3.57μm.
