摘要

The first optical-frequency hollow waveguides-made by Elsa Garmire and her group at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA) in the late 1970s-were simple rectangular structures constructed from parallel plates of aluminum sheeting. Today, these rather large and inflexible rectangular waveguides have been replaced with dielectric-coated circular hollow waveguides that have lower loss and much smaller dimensions.
