Droughts, Low Sugar Output Hit India's Ethanol Program

India's government has reversed an earlier decision to bar the use of sugarcane juice and sugar cane syrup for ethanol production asthe country struggles with droughts that have hit sugar production and driven up prices. India is targeting a steady increase in the volume of ethanol that is blended with gasoline as it seeks to curb its spending on oil imports. The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a target for ethanol blending of 12 in the 2022/23 ethanol year, which endedin October and is targeting 20 in 2024/25 and 30 in 2029/30.
