Influence of biomass fuels on performance and exhaust emission of a diesel engine

While there is almost no difference between the performance of a diesel engine in which methyl-esterified fuel produced from vegetable oil is used as a biomass fuel and the performance of a diesel engine in which gas oil is used, there is a grate reduction in the amount of exhaust smoke when methyl-esterified fuel is used. The mechanism by which the amount of exhaust smoke is reduced was elucidated by investigating the thermal cracking process of fuel components using a thermal cracking apparatus.
