Digital storage oscilloscopes tune high-performance lasers

Laser systems with narrow nanosecond-range pulse-widths have become important for analyzing chemical reactions, and their importance is increasing. These high-performance analysis systems need special calibration techniques, and a new technique to observe the output signal of Nd:YAG pulsed lasers, which are commonly used to produced nanosecond pulses, was developed using a digital storage oscilloscope (DSO). DSO enable fine adjustment not only for tunable laser systems using regenerative amplifiers but also for tunable systems based on parametric oscillators. The DSO is also effective in time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy based on pulsed laser excitation, as well as for adjusting regeneratively modelocked Ti:sapphire lasers.
