Soyabeans cv. CO 1 were grown at Coimbatore in 2 kharif [monsoon] and 2 rabi [winter] seasons in 1994-96. Fertilizer treatments included different combinations of farmyard manure, sheep manure or biogas slurry with NPK fertilizers, while weed control was carried out by 2 hand weedings (20 and 40 days after sowing), or 0.75 kg pendimethalin or 1.0 kg alachlor/ha plus hand weeding at 40 DAS. Seed yield was highest with 5.0 t digested biogas slurry + 30-120-40 kg NPK/ha. Two hand weedings gave the best seed yield, followed by alachlor plus 1 hand weeding. Compared with unweeded controls, weed control increased seed yield by over 50%. Yield component data are tabulated.
