The average zinc price fell 3% in October to US$2,227/t (US$1.03/lb) from the September average of US$2,295/t (US$1.04/lb). A global deficit in the finished zinc market to the order of 340kt appears all the more likely with flat performance from Glencore failing to offset metal production from Vedanta's Indian operations, which have not ramped up as quickly as AME's forecast rate. AME predicts the zinc price to average US$2,325/t (US$1.05/lb) over the December Quarter 2014, in response to falling zinc stocks and a market balance in deficit.
