Sunnier days ahead. The average zinc price in August increased by 3.2% to US1,896/t (US86 cents/lb). Sustained prices below US$2,000/t for most of 2012 and 2013 has helped tame the explosive growth in Chinese refined supply. Despite posting a 10.8% year-on-year growth during the first 7 months of 2013, the negative growth recorded in 2012 has created a situation where global demand growth is moderately outpacing supply growth. As such, AME expect zinc prices to average US$1,950/t in 2013 and US$2,175/t in 2014.
