LME zinc prices fell by 5% in February averaging US$107c/lb (US$2,351/t) but still ended the first quarter of 2011 with a 4% gain. The fall in the zinc price was alongside the other base metals, whilst in the meanwhile, gold continued its glorious rally increasing 4% in March. This was propelled by a weak dollar, political upsprings in the Middle East and renewed concerns over the debt situation in Europe.
