Over the past 5 years, Chinese metals production as well as domestic consumption has continued to swell. AME estimates that China’s zinc production increased by over 78% between 2005 and 2010 from 2,800kt to 5,000kt. Over the same period, various tax and tariff adjustments have been made with a trend towards the continued tightening of export policies coupled with relatively more lenient import policies for the resources sector, mirroring China’s rapid shift up the development curve.
