Nyrstar has announced that third quarter production of refined zinc decreased by 5% from the previous quarter to 266kt. The decrease in production was likely due to reduced output from the company's Budel smelter. Budel was hit – quite literally – by both a lightning strike and subsequent transformer fire in August, which led to the smelter running at reduced capacity. The smelter returned to full production capacity at the start of October when the damaged transformer was replaced.
