The Antamina copper-zinc mine in Peru is to undergo a $1.2bn expansion. Construction expected to commence in the first half of 2010 and coming into operation in late 2011. The expansion is expected to extend the mine life to 2029. In September 2009, Antamina's president, Ian Kilgour, said the mine had already ordered new mills for the project. AME are forecasting the mine’s 2009 full year production at 297kt of copper contained in concentrate and 400kt of zinc in concentrate. Antamina is owned jointly by BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Teck and Mitsubishi.
