The development of modern high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is connected closely with the activities of Csaba Horvath, professor at Yale University (New Haven, Connecticut), who died unexpectedly.one year ago. His primary contribution was to transform classical liquid column chromatography-which even 60 years after its invention by M.S. Tswett still was being performed essentially in the same way as first described by its inventor-into a modern instrumental separation technique that became the most widely used laboratory method in chemistry and biochemistry within about two decades.
