According to Hardinge Corp. (Elmira, NY), the company's Bridgeport FGC 2 Flexible Grinding Center with the patented Viper Grinding Process has driven the creep-feed grinding process through a revolutionary change with the advent of the Bridgeport flexible grinding process, which uses milling machine processes with aluminum oxide "cutting tools" (grinding wheels). The patented Viper process is said to make the FGC 2, which has many of the performance features of a VMC, a fast, accurate, and efficient machine for processing parts with low-cost grinding wheels. The FGC 2 uses conventional aluminum oxide grinding wheels and a high-speed wheel changer to grind parts such as small gas turbine components, turbine blades, compressor blades, stator blades, and nozzle guide vanes.
