The Boston Consulting Group predicts that by 2020 there will be a shortage of 875,000 manufacturing workers. Many of the empty jobs will be in advanced manufacturing, or high-tech areas of making things. In fact, additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is expected to be a $3.1 billion business worldwide, growing to an estimated $5.2 billion by 2020, according to the 2014 Wohlers Report.
