Broad regulatory oversight on virtually all business fronts - as well as warranty claims, supplier charge-backs, disposal costs, and product recalls - is taking a tremendous bite out of the bottom line. This is driving reconsideration of business processes for quality management, especially around how nonconformances are detected and handled. AMR Research's spending projections for quality management position it as a major priority for manufacturing IT-related investments. Despite the importance, today's manufacturing organizations still take a reactive approach to quality management, focusing on responding to and correcting nonconformances rather than adjusting their business processes and cultures to be more preventive and proactive.
