Trinidad to reopen oil and gas talks with Venezuela

Trinidad and Tobago will restart talks with Venezuela on the unitisation of oil and gas deposits That straddle their maritime boundary "soon",Trinidad's energy minister Conrad Enill says.Talks have been suspended for 11 months.But Enill announced on 13 February that Caracas has notified Trinidad that it is now ready to resume talks.The two countries agreed in principle last year on splitting the Loran-Manatee gas field,which holds 10 trillion ft3 (280bn m3) of natural gas (ALE,21 February 2007,p3).A bi-national panel determined that 7.3 trillion ft3 of the reserves belong to Venezuela.The agreement was thought to have cleared the way for the unitisation of the Kapok-Dorado fields,which hold 5 trillion ft3.
