Licensing round to offer fewer blocks

Ecuador will launch a tender for 18 exploration blocks on 24 October, down from the 21 blocks that were originally going to be tendered. The 11th upstream bidding round will generate $1bn in exploration investment over the first four years, according to oil minister Wilson Pastor. The blocks are located in the southeast Amazon region, close to the border with Peru.
