Argentina’s Pampa Energia to buy TGS’ defaulted debt

Argentinian integrated energy company Pampa Energia threw a financial lifeline to gas transport company TGS in mid-January through a deal to purchase debt that has been in default for eight years. Pampa purchased 100pc of the bonds issued in 1997 by Ciesa, the holding company that controls TGS, from Houston-based AEI, according to a 19 January letter from Pampa Energia to the Buenos Aires stock exchange.
