Government draws up new tax incentives

Trinidad and Tobago will offer more incentives to companies undertaking exploration and production contracts this year,energy minister Conrad Enhill said on 19 December.Enhill gave no timescale for the changes,but an energy ministry official tells Argus that a new upstream bidding round will be held by July.Few new gas fields have come on stream in the past two years(see below).Investor interest in deepwater exploration has cooled after the commercial failure of BP subsidiary BPTT's Ibis Deep well(ALE,20 September,p4).
