Wheat genome 95% sequenced

At five times the size of the human genome, scientists working on deciphering the genetic code of wheat could be forgiven for taking their time but they've just released a first draft sequence accounting for 95% of all wheat genes. The sequences released consist of five read-throughs of Chinese Spring line 42 - a reference variety of wheat - and give scientists and wheat breeders the opportunity to use it in practical applications. The data has been released in raw format and comprises of sequence reads of the genome in the form of letters representing the code.
