Oceans predict extreme winters come in pairs

Scientists have found that oceans preserve important information about the atmospheric conditions which may help predict extreme winters across Europe. A research team at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) examined temperature and atmospheric pressure records and found that pairs of severe winters seem to coincide with a set of atmospheric conditions.
