Different forms of a single gene are responsible for both too much and too little growth say researchers from America and the UK. Mutations of the gene CD-KN1C have previously been associated with Beckwith-Wi-edemann syndrome - which causes enlarged body parts, large organs and an increased risk of tumours - but it has now also been linked with IMAGe, an undergrowth developmental disorder with life-threatening consequences.
