Acoustic cloak promises blissful silence

Researchers have shown that certain materials can be used to produce an acoustic cloak-literally diverting sound waves around an object.The cloak is made from metamaterials-materials defined by their unusual man-made cellular structure-and builds on recent theoretical research which has sought ways to produce materials that can hide objects from sound,sight and x-rays.
