Stenting versus endarterectomy: the debate continues

The mid-term to long-term results from the Stent-Protected Angioplasty versus Carotid Endarterectomy (SPACE) and the Endarterectomy Versus Angioplasty in Patients with Symptomatic Severe Carotid Stenosis (EVA-3S) trials, published in this issue of The Lancet Neurology, add substantially to the body of data from randomised trials that compare carotid endarterectomy (CES) with carotid angioplasty with stenting (CAS) for the management of patients with severe carotid disease who have recently developed symptoms.
