摘要

Andreas Jacobs has mixed feelings about his family holiday in 2011. While his wife and four children enjoyed the Mediterranean sun on the island of Elba, Italy, he spent the entire week sat in a make-shift office back at their rented holiday home. He had to finalise and submit a research grant proposal for a new project. The neurologist at the University of Munster, Germany, accedes that it wasn't the relaxing break he had hoped for, but can't deny that his time was well spent. His subsequent funds meeting with the European Commission 2 months later was a huge success: he walked out with a ?12 million research grant. That new project, which started in March of last year, was INMiND- Imaging Neuroinflammation in Neurodegenerative Diseases-a collaboration of scientists trying to figure out the usefulness of neuroinflammation imaging in neurodegenerative diseases
