They are particularly prone to CDI, with more than 80 per cent of cases occurring in patients aged 65 and over.Typically, these patients are admitted with chest infections, urinary tract infections, strokes or other debilitating illnesses or conditions, and are prescribed courses of antibiotics that put them at risk of CDI due to the destruction of their protective bowel flora. Multiple courses of antibiotics have a greater effect.
