摘要

The potential long-term consequences of multiple repeat concussions sustained in high-contact sports, such as boxing, have been known for years. These consequences can include motor, cognitive, and behavioural impairment sometimes associated with the development of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). This encephalopathy is commonly known as dementia pugilistica in patients who have been involved in boxing. But, recently, consequences of concussions have also been recognised in professional football players, and more attention is now being given to concussions and their potential harm in other contact sports, particularly in hiqh-school and college athletes.
