Farmers' choice for cost recovery of veterinary services in different livestock holding systems- A case study of India

Thestudywasconductedfollowingexploratoryresearchdesigntoanalyzethepersonal,socio-economicandpsychologicaltraitsoffarmersindifferentlivestockholdingsystemsaswellastheirchoiceofveterinaryservicessuitableforcostrecovery.Thefindingsrevealedthat,amongbreedingservices,majorityofthelivestockholdersidentifiedartificialinsemination(85.83)andpregnancydiagnosis(63.33);amongthediagnosticservices,laboratorydiagnosis(74.17)andradiography(63.33);amongprophylacticservices,deworming(58.33)andvaccination(83.33);amongthecurativeservices,medicaltreatment(80.00),majorsurgicaltreatment(93.33)andgynecologicalandobstetricaltreatment(91.67)andamongthemiscellaneousservices,distributionoffodderseedlings(76.67)androundtheclockservices(78.33)assuitableforimplementationofcostrecoverymeasures.Furtheranalysisrevealedthatthereisasignificantdifferenceinthechoiceofveterinaryservicessuitableforcostrecoveryamongthefarmersofdifferentlivestockholdingsystems.
