From 'intensive care' to 'critical care': the changing landscape through Nursing in Critical Care.

The fascinating aspect about contemplating the passing of time is that you expect there to have been great change taking place, especially when working in a health care environment that seems to impose and demand constant change. But rather like a train journey, while the scenery outside is constantly shifting; your immediate environment remains essentially the same. So when practicing critical care nursing at the bedside, the needs of the patient and how we care for them seem to alter very little; while around us the organizational and political base within which we work is being perpetually transformed. So as critical care practitioners we experience and have to adjust to wide ranging demands. These demands have to be assimilated, judged and prioritized, and it is in resources like the Nursing in Critical Care Journal that we seek information and support in our decision-making.
