Alan (futch) couper is living proof of the adage that good things come to those who wait. For two years, the retired builder tried to persuade a local farmer to sell him a 4ha block of land a surfboard's throw from Wairoa's Whakamahia Beach, north ofNapier on the Hawke's Bay coastline. Finally, in late 2003, the farmer relented and Futch and his wife Andrea set about designing their dream home.
