When rachyl Abraham first laid eyes on what was to become her family's glossy Auckland villa six years ago, it was as though she'd stepped into a time warp. Overwhelmed by its vivid turquoise exterior, canary yellow trim and red detailing, the neutralhues of the unassuming Mt Eden neighbourhood seemed to fade from view."It was as if time had stood still," says Rachyl, recalling the house that was. "There was no indoor toilet, only two power points in this little poky kitchen and everything was just so colourful."That same brilliant turquoise graced the interior too, this time paired with a bright floral carpet (in absolutely pristine condition, thanks to years spent beneath a protective plastic cover). Tucked behind a dahlia-lined wire fence, the century-old villa was dated, but for Rachyl, an interior designer and seasoned renovator, it was perfect.
