When the tide is right, Fraser and Donna Sanderson haul jet-skis to the water's edge and whizz across Tauranga Harbour for coffee. By road, one of their favourite weekend cafes is a half-hour drive from home. By sea, it's a scenic 15-minute ride pastthe islands of Motuhoa, Rangiwaea and Matakana, offering close encounters with seabirds, cruise ships, kayakers and the occasional school of kahawai. On the far side of the bay, they lug their jet-skis onto the sand, stow their keys in their pockets andstroll to one of the eateries beneath Mount Maunganui's landmark conical peak.
