Richard simpson doesn't bring his wife Jill flowers. He brings her rocks and, if she's lucky, a digger to carve new terraces into their ever-expanding Akaroa garden. Jill wouldn't have it any other way. She's "very, very encouraging" whenever Richardplans excavation work on their 300ha farm, knowing full well that she'll get her turn with the digger at the end of the day. Jill and Richard bought Fishermans Bay Farm, on the eastern hills of Banks Peninsula, 12 years ago.
