The Nursing and Midwifery Council is developing an action plan to improve its fitness to practise process in response to concerns about weaknesses in its system.The regulator, which is likely to be the subject of a strategic review following the resignation of its former chief executive Dickon Weir-Hughes this month, has set up a fitness to practise (FtP) action sub-group.The group met for the first time last month. It has already written to health minister Anne Milton and Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) chief executive Harry Cayton about its action plan.Acting Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) chief executive Jackie Smith met Mr Cayton to clarify the CHRE's requirements earlier this month.
