Nurses who are unable to work on the grounds of ill-health or disability are being denied financial help after failing government tests.The RCN is receiving calls daily from nurses seeking advice about their entitlement to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), which is paid to people who are unable to work.Under government rules claimants are expected to undergo a work capability assessment, which can include a medical, to determine whether they are fit to work.The result of the test is used together with other information to help the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) decide if someone is fit to work.
