When my mother proposed treating my younger son to an 'adventure' trip for his 21st birthday, my siblings and I were nonplussed.An 83-year-old and a 21-year-old let loose among the hedonism that was the Orient - it did not bear thinking about. There had to be a fly in the ointment, and I wanted it to be me. Though my mother had made a steady recovery from a recent stroke, her health was frail. She had fits of energy when she was seemingly unstoppable, which drained away leaving her tired and listless -sometimes alarmingly so.
