Julie McKenzie is a senior staff nurse on the coronary care and high dependency unit at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin. She was named Robert Gordon University's mentor of the year in recognition of the way she helps develop nursing students during their placements.Ms McKenzie has some tips for mentors, which may also be helpful for students working with a mentorfor the first time. She says she treats students allocated to her ward as individuals, and points out that each has experienced different placements during their training, acquiring different skills and knowledge, before they are placed on her ward.
