摘要

Research has shown that docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation improves vascular endothelial function in hyperlipidaemic children. This study determined the effects of dietary supplementation with DHA on plasma phospholipid fatty acid composition in hyperlipidaemic children as a potential mechanism for the vascular response. Children aged 9-19 years followed the National Cholesterol Education Program Step II diet and a proportion also received DHA supplementation. The plasma phospholipid fatty acid profile was altered by DHA supplementation; DHA concentrations were increased and n-6 fatty acid concentrations were decreased. The authors suggest that this favourable shift in n-3 lipid profile might confer preventive cardiovascular benefits in this young population at risk of early coronary heart disease.
