New research projects funded by the Diet and Health Research Industry Club (DRINC)

Pre-competitive research in the area of diet and health is recognised as a key need for both the health of the nation and the growth of an internationally competitive food industry. In recognition of this, in 2007 the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), in partnership with the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), established the Diet and Health Research Industry Club (DRINC) with a consortium of 15 companies ffom across the food and drink industry. Together, the Research Councils and industry members invested ￡15 million in research projects. When the Club was evaluated by an independent panel in 2011 it was found that the research was generating new intellectual property and producing new products, processes, resources and technologies. The successful evaluation led to a second phase of DRINC being launched in 2012 with an additional ￡9 million of funding.
