ANS Announces Initiation of Revision to Standard on Nuclear Plant Response to an Earthquake

The American Nuclear Society announced the initiation of a revision to ANSI/ANS-2.23-2002 (R2009), “Nuclear Plant Response to an Earthquake.” This standard provides criteria that nuclear power plants can adopt to prepare for, and respond to, a felt earthquake at a nuclear power plant, including the need for plant shutdown, assessment of damage, and actions to determine the readiness of the plant to resume operation and to verify the long-term integrity of the plant.
