摘要

Research indicates that omega-3 fatty acids can have health benefits, especially in cardiac patients. This study determined the omega-3 fatty acid consumption of cardiac patients, and identified food sources of omega-3 fatty acids in inhabitants of the mid-western US. An omega-3 food frequency was developed, and data were analysed using a statistical programme. Dietary omega-3 fatty acid intakes were determined. Fish and seafood were the main food sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and were consumed twice a week. Major plant food sources of omega-3 fatty acids included walnuts, flaxseed, canola oil, and soya beans. Omega-3 food selection and food preferences in cardiac patients are discussed.
