The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed to revise 40CFR194 to include a variety of minor changes to the system whereby the Department of Energy shows that its Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) complies with disposal regulations.The EPA is responsible for assuring,among other things,that the waste bound for WIPP is properly characterized (that is,described in detail as far as composition and radioactivity are concerned) before it is even is sent away from the sites where it is now located.
