Malnutrition is a common problem in patients with fractured neck of femur.1'2 The presence of malnutrition has deleterious impact on the surgical outcome; hence identification and treatment of malnutrition is important.3 Many nutritional screening tools have been developed in order to identify malnutrition. The measurement of body weight as a means to calculate body mass index is a major part of various nutritional assessment tools.However, measurement of body weight is often ignored in orthopaedic patients.In addition, weighing acute, critically ill or immobile patients is often difficult and requires use of bed scales that may not be available in all places.
